Portrait of Go HuiThis is the portrait of Go Hui kept at Hyochungsa Temple in Cheongho-ri, Haseo-myeon, Buan-gun. Go Hui was invested as a third-rank meritorious subject in 1604 (37th year of King Seonjo’s reign) as he attended upon King Seonjo and was posthumously granted the title Minister of Taxation later. The Portrait of Go Hui and Relics Related to the Buan Branch of Jeju’s Go Clan were designated as Treasure No. 739.

A collection of cultural materials belonging to the Buan branch of the Jeju Go clan stored at Hyochungsa Shrine in Cheongho-ri, Haseo-myeon, Buan-gun, Jeollabuk-do.
Summary
Go Hui (1560-1615) passed the special military examination held in 1584, and started his public career as a royal guard (Seonjeongwan). His devoted service for the safety of King Seonjo (r. 1567-1608) during the Imjin waeran, the seven-year war between Korea (Joseon at the time) and Japan that broke out with the Japanese invasion of the Korean Peninsula in 1592, earned him designation as a meritorious subject, Hoseong Gongsin of the third grade, and his posthumous promotion to the honorary post of Finance Minister (Hojo Panseo). This collection of relics preserved by the Buan branch of the Jeju Go clan includes three official portraits of Go Hui and diverse documents made by his family over thirteen generations and a period of 372 years (1522-1894).
Form and Composition
The historical relics of the Buan branch of the Jeju Go clan consist of 215 materials (20 types), 76 of which were produced in the early Joseon period between the reigns of King Jungjong (r. 1506-1544) and King Injo (r. 1623-1649), while 139 items date to late Joseon from the reigns of King Sukjong (r. 1674-1720) to King Gojong (r. 1863-1907). The relics, including the three portraits Go Hui (one full-length and two head portraits), are stored at the exhibition hall of Hyochungsa Shrine, which is located at the foot of Seokbulsan Mountain in Cheongho-ri, Haseo-myeon, Buan-gun.
  The collection includes the three portraits of Go Hui (one full-length and two head portraits),  one scroll of the royal certificate of Hoseong Gongsin, fifty-four royal edicts of appointment, one written prayer sent by the king, one Annual Stipend Certificate for the Second-grade Meritorious Subject of Hoseong, three copies of the Oath of Meritorious Subject (Gongsin Hoemaengmun), one Roster of the Successful Candidates in the Celebratory Military Examination (Gyeongjeongmumun Mugwa Bangmok), one real estate document (Wanmun), two government-issued certificates (Cheommun), and one letter of recommendation (Cheonjeongmun). There are also twenty-nine daily items in seven categories, including one ivory comb, three jade ornaments, six headband buttons, fifteen belt ornaments, two official uniform belts, one belt box, and one ID plaque of Go Du-hwang. Among the various documents are forty-two family registers, forty-three petitions, six land certificates, one book list, one property distribution agreement, one palindrome, thirteen certificates, seven memorandums, and three notes.
Characteristics
Of the three portraits of Go Hui, are characterized by their diversity one is a full body portrait while the other two depict only his face. The documents are particularly well regarded as they were produced by many generations of the same family across four hundred years of the Joseon dynasty.
Historical Significance
These relics are historically significant because they were produced and carefully preserved by multiple generations of a single family (1522-1894) belonging to the Buan branch of the Jeju Go clan.
